Cyclotourism: discover the Var by bike
What if we set off to discover our magnificent department by bike? This alternative to classic tours allows you to visit the Var in a different way, and has many advantages: you can ride at your own pace, enjoying the beauty of the countryside, in complete freedom. With this way of travelling, you also take care of your body and our fragile environment.
The Var, with the beauty of its landscapes and the variety of its dream settings, offers various routes and cycle paths designed for all levels, from those who enjoy family rides to experienced sportsmen and women, not forgetting thrill-seekers. Several dozen circuits and hundreds of kilometres of tracks await you for an unforgettable experience.
Our favourites
The coastal cycle path
It crosses 20 communes from Six-Fours les plages to Fréjus, following the route of the old Provence railway. 90 km of the route has been developed, 60 km of which is a cycle path. A must! Especially as you can easily complete this route in several stages and discover the wonders of the Var coastline at your own pace.

The salt road at Almanarre (road closed to traffic in winter)
By making a small diversion to Hyères via Almanarre, it is possible, in winter, to reach the Giens peninsula via the western tombolo along a tarmac road without a car. This is an opportunity to observe the richness of the fauna along the Pesquiers salt marshes (and in particular the pink flamingos, the undisputed stars of this protected area).

The Maures massif
Numerous routes criss-cross this emblematic massif of the Var, which covers almost a quarter of the department, from Hyères to Fréjus. Mountain bike routes are possible along paths that are sometimes inaccessible in summer when the risk of fire is too great. Several itineraries are also possible by road from La Londe les Maures, Bormes les Mimosas and Collobrières, with an obligatory passage: the Babaou pass and its unobstructed view of the massif and the Mediterranean, a must for both amateur and experienced cyclists.

The Verdon tour
In the hinterland, the Verdon cycling tour covers 256 kilometres of departmental roads, 193 of which are in the Var (the rest in the Alpes de Haute-Provence). An excellent way to discover the largest canyon in Europe in a different way, with exceptional views of the lakes and gorges of the Verdon.

Porquerolles
With the wide tracks that criss-cross it, the best known of the Golden Islands is particularly suited to an unforgettable bike ride. Between the Langoustier, the Mèdes and the very steep south coast, there is plenty to do: enjoy the idyllic beaches and the crystal clear creeks for a refreshing break, visit the colourful village and the Carmignac foundation, push on for a gentle climb up to the Cap d'Arme lighthouse, admire the vineyards as far as the eye can see... The change of scenery is total.

Out of category: Les rosalies (in Hyères, la Seyne-sur-Mer and Cavalaire)
During the holidays, for a fun and friendly moment, there's nothing like a little ride in a rosalie on the cycle paths of Hyères, La Seyne or Cavalaire. Relaxation and pleasure guaranteed!
