The history of the Hôtel du Dauphin vert in Le Lavandou
This waterfront property, now for sale in our agency, is an iconic former hotel in the city of dolphins. The establishment, which brings back fond memories of a bygone era, enjoyed its heyday in the second half of the 20th century. The original house notably welcomed the french president Jacques Chirac as a child during the first years of the 39-45 war, while his parents were living in Le Rayol. Take a look back at the unusual history of this mythical place.

It all started in the 1930s with the construction of the house. The client is an American who wanted a second home on the shores of the Mediterranean. Unfortunately, the disease will take him away before he sets foot even once on the Var coast. An André Citroën partner falls in love with the famous building that will become the Hôtel du Dauphin Vert, and acquires it for his personal use. He then took advantage of weekends and family vacations by the sea for a few years.
His wife's brother, a former pilot and hero of the First World War, is a close friend of Jacques Chirac's father. Following the events of 1940, the latter moved with his family to the current Domaine du Rayol, the headquarters of his company, in association with the aircraft manufacturer Henri Potez. This is how the future president spends part of his childhood on the Maures coast and regularly comes to the house.
When he died in the 1950s, his widow decided to create a hotel. The establishment as we know it is taking shape in several stages. A floor is first built before the development of the apartments that will constitute the annex.
The establishment, rated 3 stars (the maximum then), opened its doors and over the next two decades welcomed part of French high society. At that time, in Le Lavandou, tourism was in full swing from May 15 to September 15 with its gaming casino, and its beautiful hotels ... Le Dauphin Vert was then a very popular establishment. Its restaurant opens with an exceptional view of the sea and the Golden Islands, a unique spectacle that can also be enjoyed from the south-facing rooms with private terrace. Guests can enjoy walks in the vast pine forest, an oasis of shade and freshness, or sunbathe on the beach reserved for them located at the foot of the hotel. A pontoon and moorings allow boats to moor and go on excursions to the Port Cros or the Levant islands.
In the mid-1970s, the owner retired and the hotel closed its doors definitely.
