Mimosa, king of winter!

Le mimosa, roi de l'hiver

Its impressive gold-colored explosions adorn the French Riviera with its emblematic finery every winter: mimosa is undoubtedly the king of winter. Zoom in on the history of this exotic plant that has become a unmissable in the region.

Imported from Australia by English winterers, the Mimosa conquered Europe at the beginning of the 19th century and France from 1824. On the Mediterranean coast, the first Acacia Dealbata (that's its name) was planted in Cannes in 1864, in the gardens of the Château de la Bocca.

English winter visitors, lovers of the region and especially Hyères and its surroundings, bring and permanently install the Mimosa during their winter stays. Now emblematic of our region, it is impossible to miss it in February!

The Mimosa Route, which stretches from Bormes, a charming village to which the plant has given its name, to Grasse for 130 km, is the best way to enjoy the sunny yellow colors of the Mimosa.

Not to be missed, when the sanitary situation permits, the various flower parades, especially in Bormes and Lavandou, which brighten up the end of winter with their parades of colorful floats.
